Super R-Type

Super R-Type is a 1991 SNES side-scrolling shooter where players pilot the R-9 starfighter against the invading BYDO Empire. The game is a port of R-Type II, incorporating four stages from the arcade version alongside three new, unique stages. It is known for its high difficulty, tactical gameplay, and unique "Force" pod, which can be attached to the front or back of the R-9 for attack and defense. A major design choice that contributes to its difficulty is the lack of checkpoints, forcing players to restart an entire level upon death.
